Leeton Connect Inc. Vision & Mission Workshop

Board members of Leeton Connect Inc. make an enormous contribution to the welbeing of their town as volunteers, as do their paid staff. Since the founding of the organisation in 2019 members had become uncertain about what Leeton Connect was for. This is a big deal!

Members said they felt like the organisation’s purpose was frequently being re-aligned on the fly to suit available grants, instead of having a clear purpose and direction and pursuing funding opportunities in a structured way that was true to the goals and vision of Leeton Connect. This reactive way of operating was not satisfactory to members, who are highly ethical people, but who are also busy individuals who don’t have time to spend on something they couldn’t honestly back 100%. Board members also realised that the reactive operational style was unfair to Leeton Connect employees, who deserve a clear direction in their work.

In order to bring Leeton Connect back to pro-active, mission-driven service delivery, board members resolved in late 2024 to meet in the new year and take the time to get to the heart of the matter.

Over a three hour workshop in early February of 2025, led by Board Buddy Nicholas Wright, board members were able to clarify why Leeton Connect was needed in the Leeton community, what it ought to be doing, who it is meant to be assisting, and what the top-level functions of the organisation should be.

By lunchtime the board was confident and in high spirits, and now feeling a genuine sense of ownership and direction in their roles. As volunteer managers of this small not-for-profit, they now have clear criteria for approving or exluding grants, projects, or other services and activities from the work plans of Leeton Connect employees. They have the core elements that will allow them to re-write their full Strategic Plan, and then their Operational Plan.
